Safety & Compliance
At Virginia’s Fencing Professionals, every installation is performed in accordance with applicable state laws, local zoning regulations, and established job-site safety standards. We prioritize legal compliance, property protection, and transparent communication so our clients understand the requirements involved in their fence project.
Underground Utility Location (VA811)
Before any excavation begins, underground utilities must be located to prevent service disruption, property damage, and injury. Virginia law requires notification through VA811 (Miss Utility) at least three working days prior to digging. Requests may be submitted by calling 811 or 1-800-552-7001, or online at va811.com. Utility operators are then given 48 hours to mark underground lines.
We coordinate and schedule all required VA811 notifications as part of our installation process. Property owners completing a fence project independently are responsible for contacting VA811 prior to excavation.
Fence Permits & HOA Requirements
Fence permit requirements vary by municipality and zoning district. In Virginia Beach, certain residential fences may not require a permit when they meet established height and placement criteria. However, permits may be required if a fence exceeds local height limits, encroaches on an easement, surrounds a swimming pool, or does not meet setback requirements. Other cities within Hampton Roads maintain similar zoning regulations.
During your consultation, we review applicable local codes to determine whether a permit is required. We can manage the permitting process and homeowners’ association (HOA) approval process when applicable. A permitting and compliance fee applies for preparation, submission, and coordination with municipal offices or associations.
Job Site Safety Standards
Our crews operate in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and established construction safety practices. Installers are trained in proper equipment handling, site preparation, and hazard prevention procedures. Work areas are maintained in a safe and organized condition throughout the installation process.
We also take steps to verify property lines before installation and communicate with adjacent property owners when necessary to support accurate fence placement.
